Learning one new thing

A while back, I decided that it would be fun to “learn one new thing” from anyone I met. As in observe what they did well and what they did to make it happen. Sometimes  it would be a negative experience, but you would learn something from that regardless.

I feel this when I meet “core” couchsurfers that they have much to teach me. I met Eli during the Niagara Invasion, a rabbi who made dirty jokes like he was a college student. But his generosity is what I really remembered. 20 of us went to a winery and instead of getting everyone to pay $10.50 each he paid for all of us and then “passed the hat around” allowing us to pay what we could afford. He did not want to exclude anyone who could not afford it and did not care that some may abuse his generosity.

Oktoberfest Kitchener Waterloo

So apparently this Kitchener Waterloo event is the biggest Oktoberfest outside of Germany. It was fun, but probably only if you’ve never been to the real thing (I have). We went up on Saturday morning and returned on Monday.

We hadn’t realised that all the beer tents closed on Sunday at 6pm. (But it’s Oktoberfest….)

Anyway Saturday was good. Beer was pricey but that was expected. You could only get Molson in the beer tents, however. For those who have never had Molson, it sort of tastes like urine. Only chilled.

At least it was chilled.

Nuit Bland…um Blache

Was it just me or was Nuit Blanche kind of foo foo? I enjoyed walking around but a lot of the art was just….lame. Seriously.

Nice idea though. Next year I’ll be on the West side where apparently bars are open till 4am.
